Racking for Redlands warehouses
Redlands has made new warehouse space hard to add. The city adopted development rules for large warehouse projects in 2023 after a moratorium the year before, and in 2025 its planning commission directed staff to study further limits on new logistics development. For an operator already in Redlands, that means a capacity problem usually has to be solved inside the building they are in rather than by moving into a bigger one.
That is a different job from laying out an empty shell. It means narrowing aisles to what the existing lift fleet can genuinely work in, adding beam levels under a sprinkler system that was designed around a different storage height, and going to pushback or double-deep where the SKU velocity can afford the loss of selectivity. Every one of those changes touches the fire submittal, because aisle width, storage height, commodity class and flue space are what the review turns on. We develop the rack layout and the fire submittal together rather than one after the other.
The building stock is mixed in a way that matters. Redlands was a citrus packing town and packinghouse-era buildings are still in service, with newer distribution space closer to the freeway. Dated product wants first-in first-out flow, which is a pallet flow or drive-through answer rather than a drive-in one.
High-pile storage is reviewed in town here rather than at the county, and we take that paperwork through alongside the city’s.
Systems we install in Redlands
Selective pallet rack
Every pallet reachable from the aisle. The default where the SKU count is high and the pallet count per SKU is low.
Drive-in rack
Forklift drives into the lane. Highest density per square foot, LIFO rotation, one SKU per lane.
Push-back rack
Two to six pallets deep on nested carts. Density without giving up a lane per SKU.
Cantilever rack
Arms instead of beams, for pipe, lumber, tubing and anything that will not sit on a pallet.
Mezzanines
A second level built inside the building. Adds floor area for storage, picking or work space without moving.
Bulk storage and shelving
Hand-stacked cartons on boltless shelving, with wire decks or particleboard.
We also supply wire decks, conveyors, pallet jacks and more.
Rack inspections in Redlands
Forklift impact bends uprights, and a bent upright loses capacity long before it looks dangerous. We inspect racking against the manufacturer’s configuration, classify what we find by severity, and give you a written report.
